Short answer: Mexican clinics that publish their prices mostly charge between about $3,900 and $18,000 (US dollars) for a stem cell treatment package. Single-joint knee treatments are at the low end. Multi-day neurological programs are at the high end. Many clinics publish no prices at all, so always get an itemized written quote before you pay a deposit.
How we compiled these prices
Our sources were the clinics' own websites and our Mexico clinic profiles, which record each clinic's "Cost and Payment" details. We rechecked each figure against the live website on October 23, 2026.
We used only prices that clinics publish themselves, not figures from third-party marketplaces. US comparison figures come from published studies, which we name. We did not estimate or average any numbers. Prices change, and they are the clinics' own claims, so confirm the current price directly with any clinic before you travel.
As of October 2026, none of the clinics on this page has paid Stem Cell Directory for placement, ranking, or leads. Stem Cell Directory earns money by referring patient inquiries to clinics; if a clinic named here becomes a paying lead customer, we will note it here.
Of the 43 Mexican clinics in our directory, most do not publish prices. They give a quote after a free consultation. The figures below come from the minority that do publish them.
Cost by treatment type
All prices are in US dollars. "Package" means the clinic quotes one price for a full treatment plan, not a single injection.

Its Tijuana homepage advertises a starting price of $4,950 for 25 million cells (stemcellmexico.com). Ask R3 which price applies to you.
MS note: The figures above are for mesenchymal ("MSC") stem cell infusions. HSCT, the bone-marrow-transplant-style treatment for MS that some Mexican hospitals offer, is a different and much more intensive procedure. It is priced separately and is not covered by these figures.

Is stem cell therapy cheaper in Mexico than in the US?
Often yes, at least on paper. But the prices are hard to compare directly.
- US price studies: A study of US direct-to-consumer clinics found an average price of $5,156 for one same-day knee stem cell injection, with prices ranging from $1,150 to $12,000. Researchers got that figure by posing as a 57-year-old patient (Piuzzi et al., Journal of Knee Surgery, 2018). A larger phone survey of 288 US orthopedic practices found an average of $2,728 per "stem cell" knee injection, ranging from $300 to $12,000 (Momaya et al., "The Cost Variability of Orthobiologics").
- What you are comparing: Those US figures are usually for a single injection. Mexican prices are often packages that can include several infusions, lab tests, a hotel and transport. A Mexican package can therefore look similar in price to one US injection while including more. It can also cost more.
- Different products: Many Mexican clinics use donor cells grown in a lab, which the FDA does not allow outside clinical trials in the US (FDA). A lower price does not mean the same treatment.
- Unverified savings claims: Statements on clinic websites such as "70–80% cheaper than the US" are the clinics' own and have not been independently checked.
What is usually included, and what is not
What a package covers varies a lot between clinics. These examples come from clinics' own websites:
- Franklin Clinic (Mexico City): Every package lists the number of cells, IV application, exosomes, blood test, medical consultation, 2 hotel nights and private transport.
- GIOSTAR Mexico: Packages include evaluation, labs and imaging, treatment sessions, monitoring, accommodation, airport and clinic transfers, and IV therapy. Flights, meals and a companion's costs are not included. Protocols use 1–4 vials, or 35–140 million cells.
- R3 Stem Cell: The clinic says its larger packages include exosomes and hotel stays.
- Stem Cell Mexico – MedicalMex: Pickup on the San Diego side can be arranged. Flights, meals, extra imaging and accommodation are included only if your written quote lists them.
- ITC (Tijuana): The clinic says its $18,995 three-week program includes therapies, diagnostics, and breakfast and lunch Monday to Saturday. Room, travel and some specific therapies are not included.
Ask every clinic in writing:
- Which cell type and source will be used, for example umbilical cord, your own bone marrow or your own fat?
- How many cells, in millions, will you receive?
- How many treatment sessions are included?
- What is the exact total?
Costs that are easy to miss
- Flights, extra hotel nights and meals, plus a travel companion's costs.
- Pre-treatment tests or imaging, such as MRIs, that you may need before you go.
- Card fees. For example, R3 states that a 3% bank charge applies to credit card payments.
- Add-ons such as PRP, extra IV drips, hyperbaric oxygen or exosomes. Some clinics price these separately.
- Repeat or "booster" treatments. Some clinics suggest yearly sessions.
- Travel and medical insurance for the trip. Also consider the cost of follow-up care at home if something goes wrong. The CDC notes that medical travel carries added risks, including infection.
Payment and financing
Most clinics are cash-pay and ask for a deposit. Examples:
- GIOSTAR Mexico: The clinic names its financing partners, United Medical Credit (up to $25,000 for US patients) and eFinancing Solutions. It also accepts cards, wire transfer and installments.
- ProgenCell (Tijuana): The clinic advertises "buy now, pay later" options on its website.
- Stem Cell Mexico – MedicalMex: The clinic states that the deposit is credited toward the treatment total and that card fees are disclosed before payment.
Before you send money, get the cancellation and refund terms in writing.
Does insurance or Medicare cover it?
Generally, no.
- Medicare: Medicare says it "usually doesn't cover health care while you're traveling outside the U.S.", with a few narrow exceptions.
- FDA approval: The only stem cell products the FDA has approved are blood-forming stem cells from umbilical cord blood, used for blood disorders. Other uses, such as for joints, MS, COPD or anti-aging, are not FDA-approved (FDA). Plan to pay out of pocket.
- HSA or FSA: If a clinic says its treatment is eligible for an HSA or FSA, check with your plan administrator before you rely on it.

Is stem cell therapy cheaper in Mexico than in the US?
Often, but not always on a like-for-like basis. One US study found an average of $5,156 for a single same-day knee injection. Mexican clinics often charge $3,900 to $6,000 for a knee package that may include more than one infusion, tests and transport. The cell products also differ: many Mexican clinics use lab-grown donor cells that the FDA does not allow outside clinical trials in the US.

Does insurance or Medicare pay for stem cell therapy in Mexico?
Generally, no. Medicare usually does not cover care outside the U.S. Most stem cell uses offered in Mexico are not FDA-approved, so expect to pay out of pocket and check any financing terms carefully.
What is usually included in the price?
It depends on the clinic. Some packages include the cells, lab tests, a consultation, IV nutrition, a few hotel nights and transport. Others cover only the treatment. Ask for an itemized written quote showing the cell type, the number of cells, the sessions included and everything that is not included.
Is stem cell therapy FDA-approved?
Only blood-forming stem cells from umbilical cord blood are FDA-approved, and only for certain blood disorders. Stem cell treatments for joints, back pain, MS, COPD or anti-aging are not FDA-approved. Mexico's health regulator, COFEPRIS, licenses clinics in Mexico, but that is not the same as FDA approval.
