Most are orthopaedic, spine, pain management and rehabilitation practices. Bone marrow aspirate concentrate, made from the patient's own bone marrow, is the treatment named most often, usually offered alongside platelet-rich plasma. Back and spine pain, arthritis and sports injuries are the conditions listed most often.

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration has approved very few stem cell products, mainly blood-forming stem cells from umbilical cord blood for disorders of the blood. Treatments that use a patient's own minimally processed cells in the same procedure, such as bone marrow concentrate, can be offered without that approval. Donor products such as umbilical cord, amniotic and exosome products are different: the FDA has warned patients that many of these are unapproved, and it has received reports of serious side effects.
